Tombstone Tuesday - Scenes at Saratoga

Saratoga Cemetery is a small farming community cemetery with about 1,000 burials. It is nestled off the main county road going though Grundy County, Illinois. This was my first visit and I was drawn to the north side where the oldest stones were laid. Here are some photos of this cemetery:

  1. Thought I was going to see Saratoga, NY. ha! Wonderful old stones.

    1. I love the old ones. And there's a blog idea - how geographical names move farther west.

  2. Some of these tombstones are for your ancestors, right? (like Gunder Gunderson?) But others don't seem to be in your label cloud, so you must have photographed them for their amazing age. I see several dates in the 1800s. Does the 4th stone end in 1508, or is that something else I'm seeing?

    1. No, none of them. Give me an old cemetery and I could wander all day :) The earliest I have seen on this area is about 1840. I'm not certain what the bottom number is but she died in 1856.
